Valentine’s Day may seem like it’s all about a romantic dinner and red roses. But what about the best friends-the women who love and support you all year long? They deserve a treat for cheering you up when you’re low and celebrating with you when you’re victorious. This year, honor your meaningful friendships with a fun “Gal”-entine’s Day fete.

To pull off a fabulous party your gal pals will remember all year, Watson’s Catering and Events (www.watsonscatering.com) in Greenwich offers their top three essentials:

Get creative with your tablescape and decorations. A color scheme of red, pink, and white makes for a sweet, feminine, and festive fete. Help your guests get into the holiday spirit of the event; for example, arrange blank Valentine’s cards for your friends to fill out and exchange with one another.

Choose thoughtful little treats. Party favors, for example, will delight your guests and let the good feelings linger long after your bash. Your favors don’t have to be expensive. Consider a bottle of Inflora Botanica’s Rosewater Mist or Cacao Prieto, artisan chocolate made and sold in Red Hook, Brooklyn. If you are attending a party, bring a hostess gift, such as Kathie Lee Gifford’s latest book, Good Gifts.

Think about your menu. Go with food choices that are delicious yet light, so you and your guests can sample a variety of dishes and treats without filling up. Also, create your own signature cocktail just for fun, and include a non-alcoholic option.
Here’s a sample menu Watson’s Catering and Events has put together for a Gal-entine’s Day party:

Hors d’oeuvres

  • Buffalo chicken meatballs with celery skewer
  • Shrimp and avocado rolls
  • Tuna tartare cucumber cups

Demi dinners

  • Seared tuna | cellophane noodles | edamame
  • Deconstructed mushroom ravioli | brown butter sauce
  • Lamb tenderloin | root vegetable mash | minted carrots

Dessert

  • Apple hand pies
  • Caramel brownies
  • Cookie dough truffle pops
  • Assortment of candy & cookies

“An unforgettable party is about serving delicious food, fun drinks and making it abundant and thoughtful,” says Annie Horn, a representative of Watsons’s Catering and Events.  “You want your party to be an expression of your unique taste. Choose what you love, be creative, be yourself and it will be fantastic.”

“Just choose your outfit, and let us handle the rest,” is a slogan Greenwich residents may have heard once or twice in the past two decades.

Watson’s Catering and Events has called the town home since its inception nearly 25 years ago. Now, as the business continues to grow, Watson’s and its founder, Susan Watson Scully, have moved from the flagship location on Pemberwick Road where the kitchen and office occupied two separate spaces to a single new building in Glenville along the Byram River.

“It’s been very nice for us to have everything in one building,” Scully said. “We can taste the foods and smell them while we’re working.”

Watson’s started in 1992 and has transformed into a full service catering and event planning firm serving Fairfield and Westchester counties as well as New York City. According to the company mission, Watson’s strives to plan and facilitate events with as little disturbance as possible.

Watson’s helps plans and organizes functions including formal weddings, summer picnics, holiday parties, product launches, store openings, fundraisers and corporate and non-profit benefits. Scully, a Greenwich resident who grew up across the New York border in Rye, said the new location at 1 Glenville St. provides more visibility for the business and doubles as an event space for small cocktail or dinner parties.

“We love the area and I love being on the river,” Scully said. “It’s absolutely beautiful.”

The new Watson’s was put together with the help of local designers Audrey Sundheimer and Douglas Lederman. The pair selected colors, fixtures and materials to reflect contemporary trends and the space features 13-foot high- gloss ceilings and wide-plank flooring, accented by a gray and chartreuse color scheme. A large chandelier and Watson’s signature utensils hang in the space.

The new headquarters also features a large commercial kitchen where Watson’s chefs work to provide fresh, seasonal menus.

Greenwich Magazine readers have voted the business “Best Caterer in Greenwich” five times since 2010.

“The new Watson’s was inspired by the notion that we could entertain clients in our own home for meetings, wedding tastings or to showcase current trends in mixology or culinary arts,” Scully said in an earlier statement. “Here, our clients can entertain their friends or business associates in a tasteful and intimate venue with Watson’s staff catering to their every whim.”

A stylish (and blue!) affair: Peek inside Bobbie Thomas’ beautiful baby shower

Planning a baby shower and need inspiration? You’re in luck! Check out these sweet photos from TODAY style editor Bobbie Thomas‘ chic baby shower, packed with adorable details perfect for your next party.

Kathie Lee Gifford hosted the shower at her Connecticut waterfront home, which is also where Bobbie tied the knot two summers ago to lawyer Michael Marion. The couple are expecting a baby boy in August.

Anthony Quintano / TODAY

Bobbie Thomas opened gifts at a shower thrown by Kathie Lee Gifford.

“I can’t thank my TODAY family enough for the perfect ‘Blue is the New Pink’ shower they threw for me and my baby-boy-to-be,” Thomas, who loves pink, told TODAY.com. “I’m especially grateful to Kathie Lee for opening up her home again so we all could enjoy a breezy summer afternoon by the water.”

Anthony Quintano / TODAY

The celebration was a day full of joy for Bobbie, who has shared her pregnancy journey with TODAY viewers and talked openly over the years about her struggle to get pregnant and her decision to turn to IVF.

Anthony Quintano / TODAY

To celebrate the coming little man, the décor at the shower, which was from design site Minted, included blue patterned buntings and garlands, a “Blue is the New Pink” photo station backdrop with hats, boas and other fun props.

There was also a station where guests wrote thoughtful messages for the baby on indie-designed art prints, which were hand-picked to be hung in Bobbie’s grey and white nursery.

Guests were treated to an outdoor luncheon along the Long Island Sound where they noshed on little sliders appropriately held together with “It’s a boy” flagged tooth picks.

There were also tacos, lobster grilled cheese and quesadillas, creating the perfect summertime-inspired comfort food menu.

Anthony Quintano / TODAY

Guests sipped on refreshing spritzers and blue mojitos with mint and blue sugar rims and festive straws.

Anthony Quintano / TODAY

“While I sadly couldn’t sip KLG’s ‘stuff’ aka Gifft wine, I certainly loved the sugar fix thanks to the cake by One Girl Cookies,” Thomas said. “And I was touched by the thoughtful decor, and the special art prints (complete with heartfelt, hand-written messages from the guests) from Minted.com. They will fill our nursery with love.”

The cake was a simple three-tiered vanilla bean confection decorated with blue and white buttercream frosting and dotted with pink accents.

Anthony Quintano / TODAY

Not a detail was missed, down to the decoration on the outdoor fire place, which was adorned with a cute “Baby Buzz” sign.

Anthony Quintano / TODAY

The gift bag for guests contained some of Bobbie’s favorite beauty and fashion items, as well as edible treats! There was Hanky Panky underwear (in azure), Rita Hazan Weekly Hair Remedy, Essie nail polish (in Find Me an Oasis shades), Perfect Veil perfume, Anastasia lip-gloss (in shades of pink) and Snappers snacks.

Anthony Quintano / TODAY

“While there were moments we worried it might literally ‘shower’ us with rain, the weather held out and we all got to enjoy a picture-perfect party that I know I’ll never forget. Our little man is lucky to have such great women welcoming him into the fold,” Thomas said.

Next up for Bobbie — awaiting the due date of her baby boy!

If there are two things that we know as gospel truth for the beginning of summer, they would have to be:

1) It’s the time when we order more cocktails than ever.

2) It’s the time when we get excited about fresh strawberries right outta the patch.

So, we kinda of swooned a bit when Watson’s Catering in Greenwich reached out to us with a killer cocktail recipe. Yes, the same Watson’s Catering that has been around since 1992 and has pulled in a ton of awards like Best Caterer from Greenwich Magazine. But, back to this bad boy drink . . . The Strawberry Basil Bourbon Mash is sure to be a classic in your house once you prepare it. And, for us, it combines some of our favorite things: basil (we’re Italian), bourbon (we love the stuff), and strawberries (because, strawberries).

Strawberry Basil Bourbon Mash
Ingredients:

• 1 1/2 oz. Bourbon

• 3/4 cup strawberries, halved or sliced

• 6-8 basil leaves, torn, plus for garnish

• Club soda

Directions:

Place the strawberries and basil in the bottom of a large glass (a mason jar would be great). Muddle with a large spoon and top with the bourbon. Stir to combine and fill the glass with ice. Top with club soda then garnish with basil leaves.
